Each summer Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites hires naturalists and historic interpreters to conduct public programs. Responsibilities for seasonal interpreters may include leading hikes or tours, conducting nature programs and campfire programs, leading recreational activities and conducting a Junior Ranger Day Camp for children.

Requirements: Applicants must have some college experience, at least two years of college coursework is preferred.  Candidates who have already completed a degree are certainly welcome.  Areas of study that would be most appropriate include Outdoor Recreation and Interpretation, Environmental Education, History Education, Natural Resources, Biology/Ecology or other related field. Applicants must also have strong communication skills and be able to work independently.

Dates: Most positions are available May-August with exact dates varying from site to site. A few sites offer positions beginning in the spring and extending into fall.  If you are only available for the summer months don't be discouraged from applying for positions at sites that are listed as hiring spring-fall.  While these parks are looking for candidates with longer availability they may not always be able to find them and may consider a good candidate for the summer only.  All new seasonal interpreters are required to attend an orientation/training in late May.
Benefits: The pay rate is $7-10/hour; applicants must have completed two years of college study in an appropriate field to be eligible for the $10/hour pay rate. Some sites have onsite housing available - refer to the availability chart.
