- Special note: Black Rock Mountain Parkway is a steep and winding mountain road. It is paved and well marked, but bus drivers should use extreme caution.

The site focuses primarily on life during the colonial period of Georgia to the American Revolution, but, can also present programs on the War of 1812. The program includes an 11-minute video "Sunbury Sleeps". Teachers may also request "Colonial Games" an interactive program which introduces children to traditional activities that children enjoyed during colonial times. Field Trip Information: Teachers can select from the following interpretive programs: age appropriate nature hikes, live animal programs, and interpretive boat rides. Nature hikes can be both ranger or teacher led. The park offers hand outs for teachers to follow if a self led hike is preferred. Guided hikes focus on habitats and ecosystems and what animals might live there. Live animal programs focus on native creatures that live in the area. The interpretive boat ride focuses on water ecology, preservation, and aquatic habitats.

- Field Trip Information: On a guided tour students learn about FDR's life in Georgia at the museum which features the famous "Unfinished Portrait" that he was sitting for on the day he died, his 1938 Ford convertible with hand controls, and a stagecoach; view a film about FDR's life in Georgia; and tour his home which is left as it was when he passed away April 12, 1945. A teacher's resource kit can be downloaded from the Site's web page. - Field Trip Fees: There is no fee for ranger-led hikes on the nature trail or nature programs. Boat tours: $6/student; student rate applies to chaperones and teachers. There is a refuge entrance fee of $5/personal vehicle; $25/vehicle holding up to 24 passengers, $50/vehicle holding 25 or more passengers. If schools contact the State Park or National Wildlife Refuge at least two weeks in advance; they can request an entrance fee waiver form; the waiver form must be submitted and approved prior to arrival.
- Field Trip Information: Boat tours and programs focus on wetland ecology, local wildlife and cultural history. Field trips for groups exceeding 20 people may be scheduled Tuesday through Thursday. Groups of 20 or less may be scheduled on any weekday. Some weekend dates may be available.
