The Friends of Watson Mill Bridge build a
log cabin bunkhouse.

To fill the cracks between the logs, cement mortar was used to simulate the mud that would have been packed between the cracks during the old days. For these modern times, nails were driven into the logs to hold the
cement mortar in place. All of the volunteers were treated to hamburgers, hotdogs, tofu-dogs, deserts, and cold drinks. On this day, 25% of the total chinking, or half of the outside, was completed.

The Friends of Watson Mill Bridge State Park is a 501(c)3 organization
with a stated purpose to assist through advocacy, fundraising and volunteerism.
This organization is committed to any activities that enhance the content,
quality, and services at Watson Mill Bridge State Park and in making
Watson Mill Bridge State Park the premier state park in Georgia. The
organization was established in February, 2001.
Those interested in becoming a member of this organization may contact
any member or call the park office at 706-783-5349.
The organization has been very active from its beginning. There have
already been several volunteer work days involving work on the new equestrian
camping area and a new horse trail, preparations for the construction
of a log cabin, a log cabin workshop for the general public, a grant
proposal for the upgrading of an existing facility on the park, and
a committee has begun the preparation of an up to date master plan for
the park. The volunteer work days have involved many people of all ages.
Along with seeing the progress of the projects, is the good fellowship
and tasty picnic lunches provided by the organization. As one person
said when leaving, "Let me know when there's another work day -
this was fun!"
Who says it's better to give than to receive?
